About Tanoshii na Mono

I was browsing "Fleeting Fancies", looking through some fanart sites, when I thought of it. Why not make one too? A recommendation site. I'd always been thinking, I had so many sites in my Bookmarks because I LOVE to dig and dig through sites to find great stuff. Then I was like "but there's already a great rec. site here.." but I'd still like to make one, I like fun things, and I thought it would be a really fun thing to do! Also, I have always really wanted to contribute. I've found many interesting sites I'd love to share, and I figure you can't have too much of something (most things anyway.) Plus, people have different tastes. Even though when I watch anime, I'm semi-picky, I've read so much Manga that I'm surprised that I still have a brain intact. XD I'm not that picky towards manga. I love reading fanfics, but fanart is where I have the most fun. Some time ago I spent three days scrounging up 20 excellent Gundam Wing sites (which are rare), and many fandoms such as Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball (Z, GT).

Also, I like unconventional and sometimes rare pairings so don't be surprised if you see them rec'ed!

I decided to name the site "Tanoshii na Mono" because I like the sound of it. It means "Fun Things", and I like shortening it to "Tanomono" (though in Japanese that means something entirely different than what I intend). Tanoshii na Mono in Japanese is " 楽しいなもの".

Go forth, and don't forget to comment (even on old posts) when possible!

About Ratings & WiPs

I only label fanfics with the "+" sign when it is hovering between one rating and another.

G+ = Between G and PG

PG+ = Between PG and PG-13

PG-13+ = Between PG-13 and R

R+ = Between R and NC-17

Special note: A / (for Anime/Manga fandoms) instead of a x between characters to indicate pairing means that either character(s) could be top or bottom, there is no strong indication of one over the other.

I do rec WiPs. I don't feel like I need to explain why. I've tried to label longer fics as complete in the past, but it never became a habit. So here's your warning: tread lightly, as not all of the fanfics I rec are Complete.

FAQ's

Q: What does the "Rec something?" link mean on the menu?

A: If you know of a good site for something you like, you can rec it to me. If I like it, i'll post it. :D

Example: You see that my SasuSakuNaru fic recs page is pitiful, but you know of a fic I haven't rec'ed. Using the form, you can send the info about where it is to me. :) I'll read it, and if I enjoy it i'll add it to the site.

Q: What is a "Webclap"?

A: A webclap is just what the name implies. If you enjoyed the site you're on, press the Webclap button or image, and it sends a "clap" to the 'webpage owner, letting them know someone enjoyed their work! Its a great way to get the webpage owner the message without saying anything (though there's a box where you can tell them what you thought). So if you liked their site, please take the time to press the button. A lot of times they have an illustration up to thank you, so it's even more worth it!

Q: What does "Link Free (リンクフリー)" and "Sougo" mean?

A: Link Free means you don't need the site owner's permission to link to their site. A lot of times, "link free/not link free (or unlink free) " is written in Japanese (katakana), but it might also be in English. I try to make sure before I link, because its no fun getting an upset email from an artist because you didn't ask them for permission or at least tell them you were linking to their site. If a site is not link free, I usually link to a site that is linking to it instead and leave a note where it is on the site or page. If you're unsure whether a site is link free or not, try running the text above the site info and banner on the link or about page into the Babelfish translator and see if you can gain insight from that. "Sougo" means mutual linking. Most of the time it means you can only link to the site if they agree and link back to you.

Q: What does BL and GL mean?

A: Boy's Love and Girl's Love respectively, popularly known as Yaoi and Yuri outside of Japan. BL is non-explicit, yaoi is explicit.

Q: Why are some sites password protected?

A: There could be a few different reasons.

1) The site is adult in nature.

2) The owner wants to protect their site against companies in case they don't like fanworks being made.

3) Possibly protecting themselves against foreigners (who steal art).

Q: What is an Under/Reverse/Secret page?

A: An under page is a hidden part of the site where the artist (or author) keeps their adult gallery. Most of the time the works are R-15 (Japanese rating) and up. Sometimes, the under page is out in the open without a password, or just below the fanart on the site.

Q: What is pixiv and how do I use it?

A: Go here to answer both questions.

Q: Why doesn't a link work?

A: Probably because either the site was taken down by the owner, it's in the process of being moved or has already been moved to another location, or it's just temporarily down for some reason or other. I'll label them as such if I find them so you won't have to click through sites that are broken. Links that never come back will eventually be removed on my rounds.

Q: Why don't you rec so and so pairing?

A: Either I don't like the pairing, don't know the fandom, or I just haven't felt like reading that pairing.

Q: Why don't you have so and so fandom recs?

A: Either I don't know the fandom, or I haven't/don't read fic for it yet.

Q: Why isn't there more het/shoujo/bl/yaoi/etc.?

A: I don't stick to one type all the time. I do read more bl/yaoi and slash than anything else, but when i'm in the mood I read other types too.

Q: How can I contact you?

A: Through the mail form, my email, the Tanomono LJ, or my LJ.

Q: Can I help you in any way?

A: I don't see why not. If you read something you really like, find a rec worthy fanart site, or just have a link you want to share, then rec it to me through the mail form, my LJ, the site LJ, or my email (see above). If it's a fandom I don't know, that's okay as long as you do the rec'ing part (aka, put a summary with it or your thoughts on why you liked it). ^^

If the site allows comments by non-registered users, you don't even have to say anything, just draw in a heart and enter it so that the artist knows someone loves it. <3

Due to how big the list is, there is a separate page for these terms. They're terms you'll find on Japanese pages, including character names and pairings in Japanese. ;)
